Guten Tag!...Strolling down the street

Hey everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well.  I haven`t completely recovered from the jetlag because I could not fall asleep til about 4:30am (11:30pm in Ottawa).  Although I slept really late, I woke up around 8 am.  I got cleaned up and went to get some of the continental breakfast that the hotel serves.

Most people in Graz have some knowledge of English.. especially the younger people..some are even fluent.  When I got back to my room around 9:30 am, I decided to brush up on my German.  Anna, who`s a good friend of mine, got me a German CD language course before I left Canada (Thank God! haha)

So far, I know the important phrases such as the following..

Guten Morgen         - Good morning
Guten Tag                - Hello
Guten Abend            - Good evening
Gute Nacht              - Good night
Auf Wiedersehen      - Good Bye
Tschuss                    - Bye
Ich habe eine Frage - I have a question
Danke                     - Thank you
Bitte                        - Please
Entschuldigung         - Excuse me
Tut mir Leid             - I`m sorry

After working on my German, I fell asleep. I woke up around 3:30 pm, took a stroll down the street and did some groceries (No way was I going to eat that tasteless McDonalds again haha).

I bought some instant foods, a few drinks, a loaf of bread, peanut butter (skippy ofcourse ;) ) and some snacks.  It only came up to 15.06 Euros.

Now I am packing my bags to check out tomorrow morning and move into my apartment.

Til next time,

Tschuss!

Hello Graz

Hey guys!

I boarded my first flight yesterday at 4pm, with connecting flights between Toronto and Munich, and by God's grace I reached Graz at approximately 12:30pm Austrian time, which is 6:30am in Canada.  Now, I have not boarded a plane since I moved to Canada in 2001 so I was a little nervous on the first flight, but eventually got used to it... kind of. Over all the flight was comfortable and not too long, which was great.  Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers.

At the Graz Airport

Once I reached Graz, I took a taxi to the hotel which I will be staying at for the next 2 days. The hotel is called Amedia Hotel.  It is about 15 minute drive from the airport.

I rested up a bit and decided to go get some McDonald's. Although the McDonald's here looks like a 5 star restaurant, I was disappointed with the food.  But then again, McDonald's in Austria must be different from the ones in Canada right? haha.  So far, the people of Graz seem like nice people.. I'm sure it'll get better once I improve my German.

Til next time, Cheers!
